Opening of the Daily Bread Community Garden. The Daily Bread Org is an NGO that Soil Solutions has been committed to supporting for many years now. The work Daily Bread performs is so important within the local community and even more so since the devastation of Covid. The Community Garden project was a long term goal of founder Charmaine McGinley , and another example of her sustainable approach to upliftment of those in need.
This spectacular Community Garden is set in the lower level of Leaping Frog shopping centre, where you will also find their Charity store and the base of their charitable operations. This space was previously unused, and had become a severely neglected eyesore. Its manifestation into a Garden created on organic and permaculture principles yielding continuous vegetables, herbs and plants under the amazing guidance and assistance of Terry Moller (Garden Doyenne and dedicated volunteer) is truly amazing. The garden is referred to as the Garden of Survivors and a place of new beginnings, beyond food the garden provides a platform for training of sustainable principles including Soil regeneration, recycling, and environmental impact. This space allows for skill development and job training and allows for a revenue stream as the local restruants and neighbours are regular patrons of the organic herbs and vegetables. A space that provides employment for the unemployed – work a day in the garden and go home with a food parcel. The garden is an important part of the “Beyond Sustainability ” model that Daily Bread has developed and actively implements it is continuous positive impact delivery. We at Soil Solutions are proud to be contributors. It is great to be in the company of some many other helping hands and organisations that have donated their time, services and products. It was amazing to see months of effort all come together in this amazing space that also provides so many positive impacts for the community …. do stop in – you will not regret it.
The Daily Bread Org have gone above and beyond to drive a circular economy within its organisation embracing all principles of sustainability, and delivering a beyond sustainable output.
They are an NGO that has a holistic model for supporting those in need that goes beyond Sustainability – in order to keep up the flow of positive impacts they need support!
Stop in for a walk through the garden — pick up some fresh fennel and basil – have a look through the charity shop – drop off some items to be donated – or spend a few hours as a volunteer.
How does the garden benefit the community?
The garden strengthens the sense of community, creating a sustainable source of fresh produce that is environmentally friendly and nourishes the community. It also generates foot traffic to the charity shop for vital fundraising to fund their charitable initiatives.
How does the garden work?
There is an honesty box at the Daily Bread Org Charity Shop. The community can come harvest spinach, basil, and tomatoes for their meal that day and drop in the financial amount they can spare.
