Soil & Dust Solutions, the South African agent of Soil Solutions, was engaged by Assmang Khumani Iron Ore Mine to construct and stabilize the ramp and crusher tip area, ensuring a durable, dust-free, and low-maintenance surface for heavy mining operations.
Engineering a High-Performance Crusher Tip
To achieve the most cost-effective and high-performance wearing course, lab testing was conducted to determine the optimal mix design. Once finalized, the construction process included:
✔ Precision Shaping & Drainage Design – The area was properly shaped, ensuring correct line and levels for efficient drainage.
✔ Deep In-Situ Stabilization – A Reclaimer (deep milling machine) was used to mix EBS dilution into the soil, achieving optimum moisture content before compacting to 98% density.
✔ Material Refinement – All particles over 40mm were removed to maintain the ideal grading modulus for enhanced stability.
✔ Layer Compaction & Surface Sealing – The 200mm compacted layer was pre-wet to optimize EBS Soil Stabilizer penetration.
✔ EBS Surface Seal Application – Four even coats of EBS were applied, sealing the wearing course and suppressing dust.
